在一项大工程的招标中，意欲中标的农民建筑公司经理任北杭遭到主管朱科长的和女工程师宋锐的阻挠。任北杭急中生智保住了工程。工程开工后，就施工问题，宋工程师与任北杭发生多次争执。接着，工程急需的钢材供应上又出了问题。任北杭以邪治邪，设了一席丰盛的“鸿门宴”，使材料科长批了钢材。然而，祸不单行，工程所需的大笔款项银根紧缩，贷款停止。拿不到工资的民工哄抢了任北杭家。在绝望中，亏得宋锐帮助，工程队又绝处逢生。。Previously acclaimed for his essayistic documentaries, Philip Scheffner has now ventured into fiction.
